Well after about a year of prepping my friend an i are finally hosting a mini convention based around a Trivia Competition.
It was hell in a handbasket getting things together but things seem to be going pretty well so far. There were allot of setbacks but we're bent on this coming through, ( being peppermint does not help much either >< oh well )
So far we're getting good feedback from would be patrons and we hope to keep that up.
In any case there is allot of tug-o-war regarding the local "big" convention "Anime City" these past few days, I personally cannot attend due to a mixture of personal issues and physical issues, but from what i'd been observing and personally think the organizers of Anime city seem to have issues with cosplayers.
So far from their last post on their facebook page they have canceled all cosplay events they claimed to promise the patrons ( which in my honest opinion isn't anything new on their behalf)
i quote from their news post:
"This decision was not arrived at lightly, but we find the continuing issue of Cosplay at all AC shows too tiresome to deal with on a regular basis.
As with all of the international conventions we have attended, both as fans and as professionals, Cosplayers have always participated by making their own costumes because they were fans first and foremost.
We thought the same applied here and apologise for apparently being wrong."
to me that translates as they found out that the cosplayers who are coming were commissioning people ( Me for instance) to make costumes and accesories to attend their event and they have a problem with that, buuuut i do recall a week before they themselves advertising cosplay items and accessories for sale in their shop. so in other words they're saying that if ppl don;t go to them for stuff then they should not go anywhere else ?
Pathetic... and added to all that confusion they introduced a new things called " The Anime Girls" which are more or less idiotic girls who were silly enough to volunteer to be clad in cosplay and do random lil odd jobs like greeting taking photo ops with drooling fanboys and promoting the con '~'
I for the longest while had gotten fed up with the crapfest that is anime city, they have refused to really want to make it the venture anyone but noobs would want to attend. In all honesty with that stupid move they made i'd say that msot ppl who wanna cosplay would cop out.
Mer well they always have TRivicon and if things go really well maybe an exclusive party for cosplayers only ^ ^ that might be more entertaining that lollygagging after The genesis foundation and their suckfest farce of a convention
